The Trident has been a seething, bubbling pot of tension ever since the coup. Thanks to the extended lifespan of the fae, many citizens of the freehold still remember how Tom Hood brought the city to order and created the seasonal Courts that have helped to ward off the predations of the Others. Some of them have gathered followings among the younger, more idealistic Changelings, but so far their rabble-rousing has been confined to the coffee-houses and nightclubs that Changelings frequent. Truth be told, no one wants another civil war so close on the heels of the first, and many (wisely) doubt their ability to depose the King of Endless Summer. Thunder’s free hand with festivals and revels have kept many of the younger changelings placated.

The mundane residents of Miami fare little better. Poverty and crime run rampant, with the city ranking as third-poorest in the country, the second most dangerous, and the city with the second-largest population of adults without a high school diploma. Gang violence is especially high, and the rivers of drugs which flow into the city virtually guarantee that organized crime has its fingers in city politics.

All of this sorrow and apathy draws the True Fae like flies to honey; missing persons reports are astronomical, and even the wisest and most well-informed Changelings cannot be sure how many are runaways or murders or abductions and how many are taken by the Others.
